Sport England have been recommending the addition of rebound panels (safer sports hall doors) on steel doors since 2012. Specifically designed for use on sports hall emergency exits, these specialist doors (safer Sports hall doors) protect hall users from impact injury with prominent door furniture
In their Sports Halls design guidance publication (please see below), Sport England advise that: “Flush doors, especial- ly those with panic bolt mechanisms, are often difficult to get right and consideration should be given to using metal frames and procuring as a single source supply item (like an engineered window).
“External escape doors must be panelled out to line through with the wall surface. The lower section can then form part of the five- a-side football rebound zone (1.21m high along walls) and a flush facing is essential for overall safety.”
Over time, as the guidance is taken up, these rebound panels are becoming more popular and are being specified on both new build and refurbishment projects. Our standard Steeldoor range can easily be modified to comply with the recommendation and is currently being used successfully in sports facilities across the country.
- All edges of the recess should be radiused to minimise risk of impact injury
- Recessed panic bolt bar set at height to conform to Building Regs Part M, British Standards and ‘Accessible Sports Facilities’
- Rebound panels flush with surrounding wall face Safety first Our doors are designed to the specification outlined by Sport England for safe use of doors in a sporting environment, which aim to improve participation in sporting activities. Specialist British manufactured sports hall doors, that meet Sport England design guidelines, allow people to play sport in the safest possible environment.SecurityDesigned with security in mind, Door furniture, such as the lever handles or panic bar, are recessed to protect children & the general public from accidental injury. This is so there aren’t any blunt objects which could potentially cause harm to people.Design
As the ironmongery is recessed back within the door by the rebound boards, it leaves no sharp edges exposed. As the doors flush with the internal walls, it helps with playing ball games due to the fact that the ball will not fly off in random directions.
We can supply either single or double doors fitted with our standard security features, such as stainless-steel hinges with dog bolts, outward opening external doors fitted with an anti-jemmy strip, supplied as standard in a powder coated coloured finish. If you are struggling for inspiration for your door colours why not go with the school colours or existing colour schemes.
