Official Basketball - Ball Size Chart
Size really matters ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL.
When it comes to playing basketball the size of your ball really matters. Not only do basketballs vary in size but also in weight – the bigger the ball the heavier it is, so it is very important that coaches, teachers and parents make sure they select the right size of ball for their players or children.
It is all too easy to destroy the enthusiasm of a new player – young or old - if they are given a ball to play with which is either too big or too small. And of course, playing with the correct size ball can improve your game.
Experienced and professional players need to ensure they play with the correct ball sizes too if they want to compete to the best of their abilities., So the following rule is worth remembering:
Size 7 for male players aged 14+
Size 6 for female players aged 14+
Size 6 for male players aged 11-14
Size 5 for Key Stage 2 - 7-11 and female to 14 years old.
Size 3 for Key Stage 1 - 5-7 year olds
Size 1 for introduction under 5's and promotional.
